Rajasthan Royals have reappointed Ajinkya Rahane as captain for the remainder of their IPL 2019 season after Steve Smith‘s return to Australia.

Smith took over the reins midway through the season after the 2008 champions managed to win just one of their opening six matches. In his first game in charge, the former Australia captain led RR to a four-wicket win against Mumbai Indians.

Under Smith, RR won four of their seven matches with one producing no result. He has left home to join his national teammates for a World Cup preparatory camp.

Delhi Capitals will definitely miss the services of purple cap holder Kagiso Rabada going into the business end of the tournament, but head coach Ricky Ponting made it clear that it was a decision that wasn’t in the hands of the franchise and one that Cricket South Africa (CSA) took.

“It was a decision that CSA made. KG had complained of a sore lower back. After our last game in Delhi he felt it went a little worse. A massive loss, but one we think we can cover. We have Trent Boult, who did well last season so he can do the job. Rabada has held the ship up when it came to the death bowling. To have very good death bowlers is important,” he said.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is expected to be an integral part of the Indian attack when Virat Kohli and his boys land in England for the 2019 World Cup. But the 29-year-old has not been able to deliver as consistently as he would have liked for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in this edition of the Indian Premier League.

However, former India fast bowler Madan Lal believes the pacer is performing reasonably well and exuded confidence that Bhuvneshwar will deliver for India at the showpiece event.

“He is performing okay in the ongoing IPL. He is one of our premier fast bowlers. He has a lot of experience and has performed in the past as well for the team. World Cup is a different game all together and I am pretty sure he will perform for the team in England,” Lal said.

Sunrisers Hyderabad allrounder Mohammad Nabi heaped high praises on Mumbai Indians Jasprit Bumrah calling him the best bowler in death overs.

India have dropped three places to fifth in the expanded men’s Twenty20 International team rankings while Pakistan have consolidated their top position, according to the latest list issued by the ICC.

The ICC Friday unveiled an expanded T20I team rankings table with 80 teams who will now be able to gauge their progress in a format, recognised by the world body as the vehicle for the growth of the game.

Pakistan, ICC T20 World Cup champions in 2009, are now on 286 points while the next four teams are within two points of each other — South Africa (262), England (261), Australia (261) and India (260).

Delhi Capitals pacer Kagiso Rabada will miss the remainder of the ongoing IPL 2019 after complaining of a back niggle. The South African Rabada was rested from DC’s clash with Chennai Super Kings which they went on to lose on Wednesday. Cricket South Africa (CSA) asked for the report of Rabada’s scans and advised him to return home as a precautionary measure ahead of the ICC World Cup 2019.

Steve Smith and David Warner have been welcomed back to the Australian team with “no tension”, coach Justin Langer said Friday, with the World Cup offering another opportunity for redemption. The duo returned to the national side for a World Cup training camp Friday in Brisbane after serving year-long bans for their part in the ball-tampering scandal in Cape Town that rocked cricket.
