Kuldeep Yadav completed 100 wickets in T20 cricket when he starred in India’s five-wicket win over West Indies in the first T20I at the Eden Gardens on Sunday.

His returned figures of 3/13 as West Indies managed 109/8 after India opted to field in the series opener. For his starring role, the 23-year-old was chosen as the man-of-the-match.

One of the noticeable features of Kuldeep’s bowling during the contest was him regularly bowling faster deliveries to catch the batsmen off guard. During a post-match press conference, the left-arm spinner revealed he has been working on the delivery since his U-19 days.

“I am working on a faster delivery in T20s to break the rhythm of a batsman. Sometimes, a batsman knows what you are going to do. So these kind of deliveries (help) check the batsman. I’m trying this ball in practice session and also tried couple of (them) in the match,” he said.

Practicing the delivery regularly in the nets has helped him gain confidence to bowl it in match conditions but he’s not planned it specifically for India’s Australia tour.

“Not really,” he said when questioned if he had started bowling the delivery in international matches keeping in mind the Australia series. “It’s been quite long. I bowled it in my U-19 days as well. So, I know this delivery. In the last series as well I bowled it a couple of times. Now, I am getting more confidence to bowl it in the match as well. Not easy to bowl it in a big stage. I’m ready to bowl it in big matches. No plans as of now to bowl it during Australia tour right now but maybe if situation demands, probably I’ll use it.”
