Sourav Ganguly speaking on a chat show predicted that batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar won’t be back before the Australia series in December. India is slated to play four Tests and a triangular ODI series involving the hosts and Sri Lanka Down Under.

Sachin Tendulkar was earlier ruled out of the entire ODI series against England because of a toe injury, dealing a massive blow to a struggling India which had already been laid low by a spate of injuries to key players.

Tendulkar was carrying this injury for quite a while but the problem aggravated just before the opening match of the five-match series at Chester-le-Street on Saturday.

The injury lay-off means Tendulkar might miss several series happening between now and the Australia series.

The Champions League T20 2011 starts in India on September 19 and Tendulkar’s Mumbai Indians have qualified to the tournament courtesy their third place finish in this year’s IPL. England is also set to tour India in October playing five ODIs and a T20 match. India is also slated to host West Indies for three Tests and five ODI’s in November.

When asked by Harsha Bhogle if Tendulkar will be fit by the start of Australia tour, the former India skipper was cautious, “I hope it’s not serious. I don’t see Tendulkar playing before Australia series”

Ganguly was also of the opinion even if Tendulkar recovers early, he wouldn’t expect him to play in Tests against West Indies but definitely not in ODIs.

On Harsha Bhogle’s question of where Tendulkar’s 100th hundred will come, Ganguly exuded confidence ” Somewhere, but it’ll come. It’s only a matter of time and hopefully in Australia”
