Former West Indies great and dominant Chris Gayle, AKA the Universe Boss, revealed about the journey and problems he faced in the Indian Premier League with the Punjab Kings.
The dominating batter in the history of cricket Chris Gayle, shared the shocking facts. Gayle stated that he had been disrespected by the Punjab Kings. He also claimed he was going into depression.
Chris Gayle was a part of the Punjab Kings from 2018 to 2021 as a opening batter. Gayle played a total of 41 matches for them and scored a total of 1,304 runs at an average of 40.75 with a strike rate of 148.65. He smashed a hundred and eleven half-centuries for them with the highest score of 104.
‘‘My IPL ended prematurely with Punjab. I was disrespected at Kings XI. I felt I wasn’t treated properly as a senior who had done so much for the league and brought value. They treated me like a kid. For the first time in my life, I felt like getting into depression. I broke down talking to Anil Kumble because I was really hurt. I was disappointed with him and the way the franchise was run,” Gayle said in a chat with Shubhankar Mishra on the latter’s podcast.
Chris Gayle also revealed about star Indian player KL Rahul’s behavior with him. He said ”KL Rahul even called me saying, ‘Chris, stay, you’ll play the next game’. But I just said, ‘I wish you all the best’, and packed my bag, and walked out“.
Chris Gayle has played for multiple franchises in the IPL like Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. However, he has a special connection with Punjab Kings (PBKS) because, out of all the IPL teams he has played against, he has scored the most runs against them. This shows why his emotions towards PBKS are stronger compared to other franchises.
