Sir Ian Botham’s ex-mistress Kylie Verrells, has hit back after the former English cricketer’s version of the affair came out in a TV interview.

“He was in love with me and used to send me emails telling me that,” Verrells was quoted as saying by the Mirror.

“The truth is it was me who wanted out of the relationship. What bit does he regret? The bit that he got found out,” she added.

Verrells — the superstar’s waitress lover for two years in the late 90s — was devastated last week to hear him say that he wanted out of the relationship early on but didn’t know where to go.

Earlier, 57-year-old Botham said that living a lie for two years was not easy, and it was a big mistake, which nearly cost him everything.

Verrells claimed that it was actually her who wanted out of the relationship.

“The truth is it was me who wanted out of the relationship. What bit does he regret? The bit that he got found out.”

She insisted that she tried to break up with him but he wouldn’t let her.

“There was no control. Ian isn’t a man who takes no for an answer. I tried to break up with him but he wouldn’t let me. One time he got on a plane and said, ‘Tell me to my face it’s over.’ But I couldn’t.”

“Towards the end I’d had enough of it and I decided to go to the papers. That was the only way out. He found out that our relationship was over because I went to the press,” she concluded.
