International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the schedule and fixtures of the Women’s World Cup Qualifiers 2017. 10 teams will play in qualifiers to claim the remaining four places in the event. The tournament will start from February 7 and will end on February 21. ICC has finalised four venues in Colombo and the sides finishing in the top four of the Super Six stage will join defending champions Australia, England, New Zealand and West Indies. Each side will play four matches in the first round, following which the top three sides from each group will progress to the Super Six stage. The ICC Women’s World Cup is slated to be played in between June 26 to July 23 in England.
Asian champions India Women lead the Group A which also includes Sri Lanka, Ireland, Zimbabwe and Thailand, while South Africa head Group B which comprises Pakistan, Bangladesh, Scotland and Papua New Guinea. Each side will play four matches in the first round. The top three sides from each group will progress to the Super Six stage. At the Super Six stage, each side will play three matches against teams from the other group. The top two sides will battle out for the title in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 qualifiers final on February 21.
