ICC named Virat Kohli the captain of both ODI and Test Teams of the Year during ICC Awards 2017. Apart from Kohli, four other Indians made to the list. Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah have made it to the ODI team while Cheteshwar Pujara and Ravichandran Ashwin are included in the Test team. Apart from Kohli, David Warner, Ben Stokes and Quinton de Kock are the other three players to have made it to both the teams.

Kohli was also named both the ODI Player of the Year and had also been honoured with the Garfield Sobers Trophy for becoming the Cricketer of the Year. Since July 2016 till December 2017, Kohli registered six double-centuries to hold the record most by a captain. Kohli dominated Test cricket as he blasted 2,203 runs in the format including eight hundreds at a strike rate of 77.80. He scored 1818 ODI runs at 82.63 and 299 T20I runs at a strike rate of 153 in the period.
