India captain Virat Kohli has quashed the notion of judging cricketers from the country on the basis of their performances in England. In the mandatory press meet ahead of the team’s departure to UK for the ICC Champions Trophy, Kohli questioned back in return to the media as to why there is ‘a different parameter’ for the Indian cricketers. India will be kicking off their ICC Champions Trophy 2017 campaign on June 4, taking on the arch rivals Pakistan in Group B clash of the tournament. This will also be the first time Kohli will be playing in England, since enduring a forgettable tour of 2014 wherein he averaged a mere 13.40 in the Test series. Virat Kohli: IPL allows you to be in playing zone ahead of Champions Trophy

Talking to the media ahead of Indian team’s departure to UK, Kohli said, “I don’t know why there is a different parameter for Indian cricketers. There are other players who come to India and do not do well. This isn’t redemption for me in England [in context of England tour 2014].” Kohli added that playing for country is in itself a big motivating factor, “Playing for country is a motivation enough. Conditions don’t matter. Whether you are playing in India, Australia or anywhere else, you want to do well for your country.” Virat Kohli, Anil Kumble demand 150 per cent hike for Indian cricketers with Grade A contracts

Kohli will be captaining India in a major tournament for the first time, having taken over the captaincy charges from MS Dhoni earlier this year. However, India have had a terrific record with Kohli at the helm in 50-over format, winning 16 out of their 20 matches and losing a mere 4.
