ICC Champions Trophy 2017: Virender Sehwag lashes out at fans for criticising Sarfraz Ahmed’s English skills

Not just Sehwag, but lot of Indian cricket fans have also defended Sarfraz, saying his job is to play cricket and not to give English lessons. He is doing his job fine and that is all that matters.

Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has turned into an active social media person post retirement. He is notoriously famous for his hilarious and outspoken posts, which often end up hurting the sentiments of Pakistani fans of late. A few days back, after the India – Pakistan ICC Champions Trophy 2017 league match, he had referred to Pakistan as India’s son, which offended not just the Pakistan fans, but also former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Rashid Latif. However, ahead of the summit clash again between the two countries, Sehwag, for a change, has managed to do something which has won many a Pakistani fans’ hearts.

This time, the former explosive opener has defended Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed for his poor English speaking skills that had come under fire by some trolls. Sehwag took to his official Twiter handle and tweeted, “Criticizing Sarfaraz for not speaking English is insane. His job is to play & he has done brilliantly 2 take Pak in finals #StopColonialMindset”

It is notable here that a video from a pre-match press conference had gone viral on social media where Sarfraz was seen asking if all the reporters were English, indicating his discomfort with the prospect of facing their questions. Not just Sehwag, but lot of Indian cricket fans have also defended Sarfraz, saying his job is to play cricket and not to give English lessons. He is doing his job fine and that is all that matters. “English doesn’t define intelligence”, one of the Facebook users commented on the post criticising Sarfraz’s English.

Sarfraz, meanwhile, will lead his side in the epic finale against Virat Kohli and his men at The Oval on Sunday.
