The International Cricket Council has come down heavily on President Sharad Pawar for the mismanagement of the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2011 and have expressed displeasure over it.
Pawar, who is also the chief of the World Cup organising committee, is facing flak for the manner in which ticketing for the World Cup final was handled. The Mumbai Cricket Association had earlier in the week made 4,000 tickets available to the general public for the final match to be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 2. The remaining 27,000 seats at the refurbished stadium will be shared by MCA members and ICC’s commercial partners.
However, on Tuesday the official tickets distribution website Kyazoonga.com crashed leading to no tickets being sold. According to the reports ten million fans seeking just 1000 tickets led to the website to crash in just 20 minutes, the official ticket agency revealed.
Tournament organisers were forced to scrap plans to sell the tickets on the web after the meltdown and organize a ballot system instead. The fiasco has caused serious damage to the ICC’s reputation.
The story at the Ferozshah Kotla in Delhi was no different with the Delhi and District Cricket Association planning to dole out passes. The Delhi High Court on Wednesday, however, came to the rescue of the cricketing public in this case, directing the DDCA to issue only 10,000 complimentary passes for each of the four World Cup cricket matches to be played at the 41,000-seat stadium.
