International Cricket Council (ICC) unveiled the logo of the upcoming 2016 ICC World Twenty20 which is scheduled to happen in March in India. The world body shared the image on their official Twiiter account saying, “#WT20 It’s coming to India, March 2016!” The final of the event will be played at the famous Eden Gardens, Kolkata. After a gap of 28 years the ground is set to host a mega final. Bangalore, Chennai, Dharamshala, Mohali, Mumbai, Nagpur and New Delhi are the other locations which will play host to matches. However, Chennai might not hold any of the games as reported earlier in the year. ICC wants all the stands at the venue need to be available for ticket sales for it to pass the litmus test. Three stands — marked I, J and K — have been shut for the last three years due to a dispute between the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) and the Chennai Corporation, with the former having administrative powers over certain areas of the stadium.

The tournament will be a 16-team affair of which the 10 full members have been given direct pass while six associates were selected based on ICC World T20 Qualifier tournament that was held in Ireland and Scotland. The previous edition of the tournament was held in Bangladesh, which saw Sri Lanka win the title after facing India in the final. BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur earlier had said, “BCCI is extremely proud to host this prestigious event. We want this World Twenty20 to be a memorable experience for our participants and fans. I am confident that all the venues nominated will deliver a world class event.”
