South African all-rounder Farhaan Behardien has received backing from his team to don the role of a bowler for his side in the ICC World Cup 2015 hosted by Australia and New Zealand and is now less than a month away. AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis are among the team-mates he mentioned who have egged him into doing the role for his team.

“Faf and AB have backed me heavily to do a job for South Africa and that has boosted my confidence,” Behardien was quoted as saying according to a report by supersport.com.

Behardien added that batting at number six was not going to be much of a task for him as he usually bats at that position for the Titans, the South African domestic team that he represents.

” It is natural progression to bat at No 6 for South Africa. Whether we bat first or second, my role is the same, and that is to finish well for the Proteas,” added Behardien.

Behardien, who had recently featured during South Africa’s tour of Australia — in which the Proteas lost the Twenty20 International (T20I) and One-Day International (ODI) series 1-2 and 1-4 respectively — was drafted into South Africa’s final 15-member World Cup squad as an all-rounder.

“It was a surreal reaction to learn about my inclusion in the Cricket World Cup squad for South Africa. It was a boyhood dream come true,” said Behardien.
