Allrounder Jofra Archer will give his World Cup audition for England when they host Pakistan for a limited-overs series in May.

The 23-year-old Archer has made a name for himself as a reliable fast-bowling allrounder having played for various T20 Leagues across the globe.

Born in Barbados, Archer has been hyped up to represent England at the upcoming World Cup owing to the qualities of an allrounder he brings to the table. Recently, he became eligible to represent the country after England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) relaxed its regulation regarding the residency rule.

Now, England ODI captain Eoin Morgan has said Archer could make his England debut against Pakistan.

“It’s not about a winning formula. That is behind us almost and we need to continue using the confidence we have earned to drive things forward and if it is about including someone that’s going to add value then we’ll do it,” Morgan said.

England will not be naming their World Cup squad until the end of the five-match ODI series against Pakistan that gets underway from May 8 after a lone T20I at Cardiff.  This gives them the chance to see how Archer fares in England colours.

“The hype about Jofra playing around the world and doing well and attracting a lot of attention is justified as he has put in performances that warrant looking at. Trevor Bayliss said after the West Indies series we will look at him against Pakistan and that’s what we will do. We don’t have to name our [World Cup] squad until the end of the Pakistan series so we’ll have a look and see how he goes,” he said.
