Karachi: Pakistan opening batsman Ahmed Shehzad is likely to be recalled in the national squad for next week’s World Twenty20 in India, following a complete failure of the top-order in the ongoing Asia Cup. Earlier, the 24-year-old was dropped for the Asia Cup and World T20 due to his inconsistency, but a strong comeback in the recently held Pakistan Super League has put the explosive batsman back in contention for selection. Selectors were forced to rethink their decision after top-order batsmen, especially Khurram Manzoor struggled to get a good start for Pakistan in the Asia Cup. According to the Express Tribune, a PCB official said that Ahmed had been asked to submit his passport for the World T20, adding that the batsman’s inclusion in the T20 format’s pinnacle event will be made official soon.Bangladesh registered a five-wicket win over Pakistan in a thrilling Asia Cup match to set up the summit clash against India in the Asia Cup.

After the liss former Pakistan great Javed Miandad claimed that Afridi had stopped being a reliable performer, adding that the flamboyant all-rounder had lost his place in the side a long time ago, the Dawn reported. Miandad, who is considered as the greatest batsman Pakistan has ever produced, also blamed the Pakistan Cricket Board for poor state of affairs and observed that many Pakistani players lacked cricket sense and did not have an aptitude for the game.
