The Kolkata police has made elaborate security arrangements, including deploying over 2,500 personnel for the marquee IndiaPakistan World Twenty20 cricket clash at the Eden Gardens here on Saturday. “Foolproof security arrangements will be put in place for the match including deployment of 2000 constables including lady constables, several hundreds of inspectors, sub-inspectors and assistant sub-inspectors who all be supervised by top ranked officers including deputy commissioners”, a city police officer said on Thursday. Full Scorecard: India vs Pakistan, 19th T20 Match, Super 10 Group 2

“Besides nine watch towers, 11 sand bunkers, three quick response teams (QRTs) five Police Assistance Booths will be placed at strategic locations,” added the officer.

Several high profile guests including diplomats and former cricket greats from both the countries will be present for the high voltage clash. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had earlier written to Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) chief Sourav Ganguly assuring adequate security measures for the match.

It will not be exaggerating to say the India versus Pakistan match that too on a weekend, will be a blockbuster game. The two teams have had an intense rivalry in the past, with India edging ahead their opponents. As far as the ICC-organised tournament matches are concerned, India have maintained their impeccable record against Pakistan.

India are yet to lose any match to Pakistan in an ICC-organised event, and by the look of things the hosts are favourites to win this clash as well. India had proven their supremacy over Pakistan in T20 cricket during their Asia Cup 2016 match in Bangladesh, wherein Pakistan were shot out for an embarrassing 83.

The chances of any bilateral series between India and Pakistan remain bleak as ever, and this match could be the last for a long time the cricket-mad fans from both the countries will get to see till the political differences are sorted out and cricket is given a go.
