Netherlands went all out in their last match of ICC World Twenty20 (T20) 2016 thrashing Ireland by 12 runs in a thrilling 6 overs match. Ireland gave tough competition until wickets started crumbling. Paul van Meekren grabbed 4 wickets for 11, receiving the Man of the Match award for an excellent bowling display and helped Netherlands end the tournament on a good note. Ireland were unable to chase the target of 60 set by Netherlands, with wickets falling at regular intervals. Paul Stirling looked in good flow scoring 15 from 7 balls with help of two big sixes. Rest of the team mates were out for single digits. In comparison, Netherlands’ innings was outstanding right since the beginning with Stephan Myburgh remaining the highest run scorer with 27 from 18 balls. But after Myburgh’s innings came to an end, it was the captain Peter Borren who kept the innings alive scoring 9-ball 14. Netherlands started off the innings very well with their opening batsman getting explosive starts. With heavy rains, the pitch conditions went for a toss but was favorable for spinners and was perfect for George Dockrell who took 3 for 7 in 2 overs. He picked crucial wickets of Tom Cooper, Roelof van der Merwe in his first over conceding just three runs from it. Wesley Barresi also fell victim to Dockrell’s spell in the next over. Ireland had a briefly promising start. The opening pair put up 10 runs from the spells of Ahsan Malik who opened the attack for Netherlands. Ireland’s Stirling made it look like an achievable target with some aggressive shots but his opening partner in William Porterfield was out quickly going for 5. The highlight of the match remained with Peter Seelaar’s astonishing catch of Kevin O’Brien in the over of Paul van Meekeren getting his first wicket, which was followed by an immediate second wicket of Stirling who went for 15 from 7 balls. Meekeren received the opportunity for hat-trick once again in the last over of Ireland innings but yet again missed it, though he remained the star of the match. Ireland won the toss and elected to field first. Just when the teams were approaching for their national anthem rains disrupted the match once again giving a deja-vu moment experienced on Friday by both teams. It was after an inspection the match was restricted to 6 overs each. Netherlands scored 60 for 5 in 6 overs while Ireland managed to score just 47 for 7.
