Shane Watson believes Glenn Maxwell will be the stand-out player for the Australian side in the ICC World T20 2016. With the pitches expected to give a lot of assistance to spinners, Maxwell’s role in the side for his bowling is expected to increase. While there is no doubt Maxwell will be crucial with his explosive batting, many are expecting him to play a huge role for his team for his spin bowling as well, considering Shane Watson, James Faulkner and Mitchell Marsh are all medium pace all-rounders. Maxwell will also hope to create a similar impact like that he had in World T20 2014, in which he was his side’s best player. His team mates have a lot belief in Maxwell’s capabilities, both as a batsman and as a bowler. Shane Watson speaking to cricket.com.au about Maxwell, said, “Glenn Maxwell is a huge player in our team no matter what the conditions are. The way he bats, whether the ball is turning or not turning, his array of shots when he gets into his innings is incredible. He hits the ball all around the ground, no matter which way the ball is turning he can hit it to all parts of the ground.”

“As a bowling option, if the ball is turning he’s a really good option and he’s got plenty of experience here in the subcontinent playing Twenty20 tournaments. Glenn Maxwell, a majority of the time when he comes off in a game he wins the game for the team that he plays in. Hopefully he’s got a few games like that in him.”

Watson himself is very familiar with Indian conditions, having successfully won the Indian Premier League (IPL) with Rajasthan Royals in 2008. Speaking about his capabilities, his team mate Josh Hazlewood said, “He’s quite a special player. His experience as well around quite a young side and inexperienced team [is invaluable]. He’s been fantastic throughout South Africa and a couple of days here. His knowledge of these grounds and the conditions is pretty valuable.”
