Melbourne, Mar 09 (ANI): Australian skipper Steve Smith has joined the chorus of players picking hosts India as the red-hot favourites to win the World Twenty20. India have been in rollicking form since the beginning of the year, winning 10 of their last 11 T20 games, including the recently-concluded Asia Cup title. Smith, whose side suffered a 3-0 whitewash against India earlier this year, described the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led side as one of the best sides going around in T20 cricket, news.com.au reported. The Australian captain further heaped praise on Indian squad, saying that they will be tough to beat in the T20 pinnacle tournament as they generally play very well in their own backyard.

Echoing similar views, veteran all-rounder Shane Watson, who has played in all five previous T20 World Cups, admitted that India are going to be big favourites considering the balance of their team and the conditions. India will begin their World T20 campaign when they will face New Zealand on March 15 in Nagpur.

Earlier, Australia captain Steve Smith has expressed his hope to see spin-friendly tracks inSouth Africa for the upcoming series, which would give them enough match practice ahead of next week’s World Twenty20 in India. South Africa will host Australia in a three-match T20 series starting on Friday, before both the sides head off to India for the format’s pinnacle event.Smith said that it would be smart for both sides to play on spinning conditions ahead of the T20′s big event, insisting that adapting to Indian conditions will be the key to success to win the coveted title, Sport24 reported.
