IND vs ENG 1st Test live: Stumps called on Day 1, India at a challenging score of 359/3!

Stumps have been called on Day 1 as India has already posted a massively challenging total of 359 runs on the board for loss of 3 wickets. Captain Shubman Gill is on a century, and vice-captain Rishabh Pant will aim to complete his century on Day 2 as he is at 65 runs.

Vice captain Rishabh Pant seems to be following on the footsteps of captain Shubman Gill, as he has completed his half-century as of now. He will now aim to complete his century as well. India at 338/3 after 81 overs.

Shubman Gill has silenced all those critics who had questioned the leadership skill of him, as he completed his century. India at 312/3 after 75 overs.

70 overs of the match has passed as Shubman Gill is closing on his century and Rishabh Pant taking the game at his own pace. India at 276/3 after 70 overs.

The fall of Yashasvi Jaiswal surely decreased the pace of the game a bit, but Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant are slowly putting up more and more runs. India at 253/3 after 63 overs.

Soon after the 3rd session of the day began, Yashasvi Jaiswal has now been given a massive shock, as centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal got dismissed- bowled out by Ben Stokes. India 226/3 after 53 overs.

After 51 overs of match, 2nd session of the match has ended. India at 215/2 after 51 overs.

With his spectacular batting skills, Yashasvi Jaiswal has completed his century. India at 209/2 after 49 overs.

With a great strike rate, Shubman Gill has completed his half-century. India coming close to 200-run mark, at 183/2 after 42 overs.

35 overs of the match has passed as Yashasvi Jaiswal completed his half-century. Shubman Gill is also going good so far. India at 135/2 after 35 overs.

After the lunch break, it is time for the beginning of second session as Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal come out on the field.

Soon after KL Rahul, Sai Sudarshan has now also been dismissed- caught by Jamie Smith off a delivery by Ben Stokes. India 92/2 after 25/4 overs, end of first session.

First shock has been given to Indian batting lineup as KL Rahul got dismissed- caught out by Joe Root off a delivery by Brydon Carse. India at 91/1 after 25 overs.

10 overs of the match has passed and the opening pair of Jaiswal and Rahul have scored 27 runs on the board.

Day 1 at Leeds you always get a bit of seam movement or a bit of something in the pitch. It might carry through nicely for the first couple of days and with the forecast set so beautifully has to dry out has to crack up and maybe a bit of spin later in the game. Already there are a couple of cracks and  they will open up. It can still be a decent day and decent seam movement for the pacers today.

Been a long time coming, bit strange that this is just the second series but we’re ready. It’s been mixed, some lads have played county cricket, we’ve had three days of really good cricket. Usual suspects in the top seven, Woakes, Brydon and the rest.

Sai Sudarshan has been handed his Test cap. He was given this cap by Cheteshwar Pujara, who is in England as a broadcaster.

The reports suggest there being a dry English summer, and that’s going to result in fairly dry pitches. Early looks at the Headingley surface suggested that it will be a green top, but that’s only going to last until the end of Day 2 at most.

The surface wears a greenish tinge on the eve of the Test but is expected to ease out after offering some help early. However, with hot and sunny weather predicted for the duration of the Test, it should ease out and get progressively better for batting.
