IND vs ENG 4th Test: Rehan Ahmed returns to England due to personal reasons
Rehan Ahmed, England’s leg-spinner, has withdrawn from the current Test series against India. Following the toss of the fourth Test in Ranchi, the England and Wales Cricket Board announced that Ahmed had left for personal reasons and would not be coming back.
“Rehan Ahmed will return home for personal reasons with immediate effect from England Men’s Test tour of India. He will not be returning to India,” ECB said in a release.
Ahmed won’t be replaced by England for the remaining duration of the tour. He played in first three matches of the series’ Test matches, but he was left out of England’s lineup for the fourth Test in Ranchi when they choose to start off-spinner Shoaib Bashir again. In the second Test in Vizag, Bashir made his debut; however, he was benched for the third Test in Rajkot in favour of Mark Wood, an extra seamer.

After the England squad had a break in Abu Dhabi and returned to Rajkot, Ahmed also encountered problems with his visa. The leg-spinner was stopped for having the incorrect visa at the Rajkot airport immigration office. After obtaining a temporary visa, he was granted admission. A few days later, BCCI and ECB collaborated to obtain the appropriate visa on schedule.
England made another alteration to their starting XI for the Ranchi Test, in addition to Ahmed. Ollie Robinson was brought in to replace Mark Wood.
Ben Stokes, the captain of England, won the toss and chose to bat. He will probably bowl for the first time in this series.
However, India benched Jasprit Bumrah for this match because to workload management, giving debut duty to rookie pacer Akash Deep.
India is ahead 2-1 in the five-match series.
