IND vs ENG: Ben Foakes' stumping appeal against Bumrah provokes massive outrage- WATCH
England wicketkeeper Ben Foakes’ attempted stumping of India bowler Jasprit Bumrah during the first Test in Hyderabad provoked much criticism on social media. Bumrah attempted to play a delivery from Tom Hartley but was unable to make contact as Foakes caught it behind the stumps. Bumrah leaped slightly, perhaps out of frustration, but Foakes immediately removed the stumps and called for a stumping. While the third umpire ruled that Bumrah was back inside the crease, the entire incident has sparked a massive ‘Spirit of Cricket’ controversy, with many social media users mentioning Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey’s stumping of Jonny Bairstow during the Ashes 2023 series, which has also sparked a heated debate among cricket fans and experts.
Meanwhile, Indian cricket team fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was reprimanded by the International Cricket Council Monday for “inappropriate physical contact” with England’s Ollie Pope during the home team’s 28-run Test defeat this weekend.
