IND vs ENG: Who is to blame for Catches being Dropped at Gully region? Former England pacer explains!
Broad explains reason for dropped catches in Leeds Test
The first Test match of the five-match series between India and England at Headingley, Leeds witnessed a number of catches being dropped at the gully region. The dropped catches not happened once or twice, but a number of times, which gave rise to discussions about fielding changes. However, former English pacer Stuart Broad has come up with an impressive explanation for this issue.
Speaking about the repeated dropped catches- which included the drops by India’s star opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and England’s star batter Harry Brook- Stuart Broad stated that all the missed opportunities were more than just failed judgements.
“I think it can be quite a difficult place to catch, to be honest. Do you know what actually makes it harder? It’s the crowd,” Broad said
“When it gets a bit colder, the crowd have different coloured coats on, and there’s a couple of empty seats in the stands as well, so the ball comes out a bit differently from the crowd,” he explained.
“And also, when the sun’s not out, when the clouds are in, it can just be a little bit darker in certain parts of the ground.”
Keeping all the dropped catches aside, both India and England played brilliantly in their first innings, with the visitors batting first and scoring 471 runs in their second innings. The hists replied back with similarly strong game and scored 465 runs in their first innings.
As of now, India is riding on centurial knocks of KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant, and have over 350 runs on the board while being in the lead f more than 350 runs as well.
