Jasprit Bumrah 100 wickets!
India defeated South Africa by a massive margin of 101 runs in the first T20I played in Cuttack. After being invited to bat first, India scored 175 runs on the board. Hardik Pandya played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 59 off just 28 balls to lift India to a competitive total.
In reply, South Africa collapsed to just 74 runs all out as all six Indian bowlers took wickets. However, the biggest highlight of the match was Jasprit Bumrah’s historic milestone.
Jasprit Bumrah has created history by becoming the second Indian bowler to take 100 wickets in T20 Internationals. The milestone came when he dismissed Dewald Brevis during the first T20I against South Africa on Tuesday. Before Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh had reached the 100-wicket mark for India in T20Is.
However, Bumrah’s 100th wicket came with a moment of controversy. When Brevis was dismissed, the third umpire checked for a front-foot no-ball. Replays suggested Bumrah’s foot was extremely close to the line, but after a lengthy review, the third umpire declared the delivery legal and Brevis was given out.
Before Tuesday’s match, Bumrah had 99 wickets in 80 matches, with an average of 18.11 and an economy rate of 6.36 – one of the best in the world. Against South Africa, Bumrah finished with two wickets, removing Keshav Maharaj after dismissing Dewald Brevis.
