India have been bowled out for 295 in the first innings of the second Test against England at Lord’s. Ajinkya Rahane was the star for India with his century and had guided the team after a position of big trouble. James Anderson took four wickets in the innings and also broke a few records on the way.

Looking at the green surface, England had won the toss and had chosen to bowl first. Both sides were unchanged and the pressure was on India as they had to face the ball on the tough surface. Though they had started well, they lost momentum and had stumbled to 145 for seven. However, they then recovered and managed to reach 290 for nine at the end of Day One. Rahane’s century was the key in this regard.

Though Rahane scored a ton and walked away with the honours, one must not forget the crucial roles played by Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara. They fought out the tough period and although they did not get big scores, their contributions were invaluable.

Brief scores:

India 295 (Ajinkya Rahane 103, Bhuvneshwar Kumar 36; James Anderson 4 for 60, Stuart Broad 2 for 79, Ben Stokes 2 for 40) vs England.
