Test cricket never stops to amaze as the first Test between India and England saw record 10th-wicket partnerships. After Mohammed Shami–Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s 111-run stand, Joe Root and James Anderson also added a century stand. This is the first time in Tests that both sides have put on century stand for last wicket in the same match.
This is also the first instance where the No 11 batsmen from both sides have scored fifties in the same match. England have continued to pile on the misery on India giving them the same treatment which they meted out two days ago. Earlier Shami and Bhuvneshwar had tormented the English pacers to take India to 457.
In the process, Anderson has also scored his highest individual Test score surpassing 34 against South Africa at Leeds in 2008. Anderson has also surpassed the highest score by a No 11 for England going past John Snow’s 59 in 1966 against West Indies at The Oval. This is the highest 10th-wicket partnership for England in Tests surpassing Tip Foster and Wildred Rhodes’s 130 in 1906 against Australia at Sydney.
Below are statistical details of the No 11 and 10th-wicket achievements:
