India go to lunch at 7 for no loss on Day 2 of the third Test, lead South Africa by 143 runs. South Africa were earlier bowled out for 79, which is their lowest score in Tests against India. India played it out safely till lunch with Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan still at the crease. India are in a commanding position and will now look to set South Africa a massive target. They will want to set a target in excess of 300, just to be safe. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja picked up nine wickets between them in the first innings and Amit Mishra chipped in with one, that of the dangerous JP Duminy. Dean Elgar was the first to go in the the final ball of the day’s first over as he played on a delivery from Ashwin for 7. South Africa then lost their skipper Hashim Amla for just 1, while he was attempting to sweep, again falling to Ashwin. In the very next over the visitors lost their best player AB de Villiers for a duck as he scooped one back to Jadeja, who picked up his first wicket of the day. JP Duminy and Faf du Plessis looked to fight it out but. Duminy in fact tried to counter attack by hitting Jadeja for a huge six. But they could not hang on as du Plessis was cleaned up by Jadeja for 10. This is du Plessis highest score in this series. JP Duminy top scored for South Africa with 35, before he was adjudged LBW off the bowling of Amit Mishra. South Africa will have to bat out of their skin in order to get close to India’s total, which looks mammoth at the moment.

Jadeja and Ashwin were doing all the damage, but skipper Virat Kohli decided to introduce Mishra into the attack and it worked almost immediately, Ishant Sharma was not required to bowl today at all.

South Africa began the day on 11 for 2, with Amla and Elgar at the crease, after India were bowled out for 215 in their first innings, with Murali Vijay top scoring with 40. Jadeja and Wriddhiman Saha scored 34 and 32 respectively. Simon Harmer and Morne Morkel shared 7 wickets between them, which ensured India do not get a huge score on the board.

On Day 1, India won the toss and elected to bat first. India have roped in Rohit Sharma in place of Varun Aaron. Also, Stuart Binny was dropped to the bench and Mishra was given an opportunity. Harmer came into the South African side in place of Kyle Abbott.

Brief scores:
