India lost Murali Vijay after a steady start to their first innings against England, reaching 43 for 1 in 15 overs, in the first session of the second day. Vijay fell for 12 to Ben Stokes, while Parthiv Patel was unbeaten on 26. Cheteshwar Pujara hit a boundary to get off the mark. Earlier in the day, England were bowled out for 283, as Mohammed Shami took both the wickets that the tourists had in their hands. England resumed their first innings at 268 for 8, and could not add many runs to their total. Shami was the pick of the bowlers, as he returned with figures of 3 for 63. Umesh Yadav, Jayant Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja took two wickets each while Ravichandran Ashwin got only one. LIVE Cricket Scorecard: India vs England 3rd Test at Mohali

India s reply to the England total has been near-perfect, as neither of their batsmen had any problems against the tourists bowlers. James Anderson and Chris Woakes began the proceedings for England, but they were taken off the attack shortly. Anderson tried to get under the skin of the Indian batsmen, especially Murali Vijay when he appealed against the batsman for obstructing the field. Vijay had played a defensive stroke, and he stood his ground while the throw came in and hit him on the pads. England’s new-ball bowlers, otherwise, did not even beat the bat s edge even once.

England might have missed out on an opportunity to put up a strong total, after their dismal show with the bat. Barring Jonny Bairstow, who scored 89, and Jos Buttler (43), no other English batsman could make a mark in the first innings.
