After Shikhar Dhawan’s magnificent 190, Cheteshwar Pujara rose to the occasion and scored his sixth 150-plus score during the Galle Test. Before this contest, only two Indians had attained 150-plus score in Sri Lanka Sachin Tendulkar (203) and Virender Sehwag ( 201*). In addition, this was only the second time two Indian batters scored two 150-plus scores in an innings, in an away Test.

Pujara took the crease when India Men were 27 for 1. Despite the ball seaming both ways and under dark clouds, Pujara stuck to his basics. India were lucky that Sri Lanka Men bowled haywire, but seldom did Pujara played false strokes.

This was Pujara’s sixth 150-plus score and 19th in First-Class cricket.

Pujara looked good for a big score, and a double-hundred was on the cards. However, Nuwan Pradeep hurled in the right channel and induced a thin edge, dismissing Pujara for 153.

Pujara was India’s highest run-scorer in the previous season, ahead of the staggering Virat Kohli who scored four double-hundreds in four consecutive series. He is currently placed at No. 4 in ICC Test Rankings, just a place ahead of Virat Kohli.
