India have qualified for the quarterfinals of the World Cup from Group B after Bangladesh’s massive 206-run defeat at the hands of South Africa at Mirpur on Saturday.

India were touted as the favourites to make the last-eight stage but had to wait for Bangladesh’s defeat to confirm the qualification.

England, who pulled off a nerve-wracking win over West Indies, are also through to the quarterfinals after Bangladesh’s defeat to South Africa. England were sweating over its place in the quarters after they lost to Bangladesh in Chittagong but heavy a sigh of relief seeing the Proteas thump the Tigers.

West Indies are also through and the result of Saturday’s India-West Indies clash would have little bearing on the fortunes of both teams.

The only point of interest is which teams both India and West Indies would meet in the quarterfinals. Both India and West Indies can at best finish second or third in Group B.

South Africa have already reached the quarterfinals after their huge win over Bangladesh. They topped Group B with 10 points from six matches.
