This is the first time since the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2007-08 that India and Australia are involved in a high-intensity Test series AFP

Hosts India have released injured all-rounder Hardik Pandya and retained the same 15-member squad for the remaining two Tests against Australia for the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India are currently at level with Australia, having made a terrific comeback after the defeat in the opening Test at Pune. India had lost the first Test by a margin of 333 runs, but they bounced back in the next Test at Bengaluru to register a 75-run victory. There were expectations that Mohammed Shami will stage a comeback and so would Parthiv Patel post Abhinav Mukund’s dismal form but selectors decided to retain the winning squad. They however did not name a replacement for Pandya. FULL CRICKET SCORECARD: India vs Australia, 3rd Test at Ranchi

This is the first time since the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2007-08 that India and Australia are involved in a high-intensity Test series which has been spiced up by on-field sledging, banter and most famously, the allegation made by the Indian captain Virat Kohli against his Australian counterpart on deliberately seeking help from dressing room on DRS.

Without using the word, Steven Smith and his Australian team were labelled a cheat by Kohli during the post-match media conference at Bengaluru. Kohli said while he was batting, he witnessed the Australian cricket team referring to their support staff in the stands over DRS appeals, whether to go ahead or not. I would not do something like that on a cricket field, asserted Kohli as the series intensified with two more matches to go and both teams at a level with 1-1.

In his justification, Smith, who had actually looked towards the Australian dressing room after being adjudged out leg-before being consulted to do so by Peter Handscomb, conceded that he had a brain fade . While Smith has made his reaction to the error public, there has been further criticism with former cricketers including Michael Clarke and Merv Hughes questioning Australian team s ethics.

The third Test of the series will be played at the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) Ground in Ranchi from March 16-20, whereas the fourth and final contest will be played at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamsala from March 25-29, 2017.

Indian squad for final two Tests: Virat Kohli (c), Murali Vijay, KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Karun Nair, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Jayant Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Abhinav Mukund.
