Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and asked India to bat first in the World Cup opener at the Shere-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

India have opted for a three-pronged seam attack comprising Zaheer Khan, Shanthakumaran Sreesanth and Munaf Patel and have left out Ashish Nehra who was reported to be carrying an injury.

Bangladesh are going into the match without experienced Mohammad Ashraful.
