Australia declared overnight to give India a 364-run target on Day Five of the first Test at Adelaide Oval. Australia scored 290 for five in their second innings after they had made 517 for seven declared in the first innings as well. India batted bravely in the first innings, but could only manage 444 to give Australia a 73-run first innings lead.

India will now have 98 overs to score the runs, though on a crumbling wicket that has shown signs of wear and tear, it will be tough for India to survive. Their opening stand will be crucial, though after a good first innings performance there is reason for Indian fans to be hopeful.
