Shikhar Dhawan cracked three boundaries as India made a confident start in their chase of 296 against Australia in the fourth One-Day International (ODI) at Ranchi on Wednesday.

India were 27 for no loss in 4.1 overs before rain interrupted for the second time in the day to stop the proceedings.

Dhawan was unbeaten on 14, accompanied by Rohit Sharma on nine.

Earlier in the day, George Bailey and Glenn Maxwell’s 153-run stand for the fifth wicket helped Australia post a challenging target of 296 against India .

Both Bailey and Maxwell missed out on well-deserved centuries after their gritty stand revived Australia from a top-order collapse masterminded by India seamer Shami Ahmed.

Shami claimed three wickets early on to put pressure on Australia.
