Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed leg-before  for a duck by Ryan Harris only in the second over of the Indian innings. Australia declared at 318 for nine giving India a target of 384 runs to chase. Shaun Marsh who scored 99 was run out by Virat Kohli.

Australia started Day Five 326 ahead. Three balls into the day’s play, the rains came down and half an hour was lost. And they came back on only to see rain return a few minutes later. On return, the slow proceedings continued. Marsh batted with measure and worked the ball around, trusting Ryan Harris to take strike.

Earlier, Australia had won the toss and had elected to bat first. Joe Burns is debuting for them. On the other hand, India brought in KL Rahul, who gets his Test cap. Mohammed Shami has replaced Varun Aaron. Australia are leading the series 2-0 after winning the first two Tests in Adelaide and Brisbane. Steven Smith’s 192 helped Australia score 530 in the first innings. India were bowled out for 465 following Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane’s spirited stand.
