David Warner scored fluent 101 and three Australian batsmen — Chris Rogers, Steven Smith and Shane Watson — smashed half-centuries as Australia took command of the proceedings against a struggling Indian side early in the fourth and the final Test. Warner faced 114 balls and struck 16 fours to bring up his 12th century in Test cricket.

Talking about his innings, Warner said, “It’s very special. I spoke to the guys the other day that I haven’t scored a hundred at home and that I cannot score runs here. It’s great to finally get there. I have done my job for the team by scoring the runs but the thing I am particularly proud of is putting up a double hundred partnership with Bucky [Chris Rogers]. That was highlight for me.”

The left-handed Australian opener Warner heaped praise on his batting partner Chris Rogers. Warner said, “Bucky likes to go about things the way he wants to. He would know when his time is up. He will finish when he wants to. He has more than 70 First-Class centuries and over 20,000 runs.”

Warner and Rogers added 200 runs for the first wicket, after which Steven Smith and Shane Watson combined to add another 144 runs for the third wicket to put India under tremendous pressure early in this ongoing Test. Australia have already won the four-Test series 2-0.

Brief scores:

Australia 348 for 2 (Chris Rogers 95, David Warner 101, Steven Smith 82*, Shane Watson 62*; Mohammed Shami 1 for 56, Ravichandran Ashwin 1 for 88) vs India.
