Silencing the cheerful Chennai crowd, India skipper Virat Kohli departed for duck in the first One-Day International (ODI) against Australia. India won the toss at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday and elected to bat. With brilliant bowling, Nathan Coulter-Nile struck early as he produced an outside edge off Ajinkya Rahane, reducing India to 11 for 1. The crowd, however, seemed ecstatic as Kohli walked out to bat.

Steven Smith kept rotating Pat Cummins and Coulter-Nile to get more success with the new ball. While Cummins got an edge off Rohit Sharma’s bat, which was eventually put down, Coulter-Nile got rid of the head of the snake, Kohli, the next ball. Follow the live blog of the match here

Kohli, confident as ever, tried to have a go at the bowler to increase pressure. It was a fuller, wide delivery and Kohli, on knee, tried to drive it over cover-point. The credit of the wicket goes to Glenn Maxwell, who hurried to take a one-handed stunner, jumping high up, grabbing on to the ball and landing safely with it. With Kohli’s wicket, India were reduced to 11 for 2.

India soon after lost yet another in wicket: Pandey departed for a duck as well. He edged one to wicketkeeper Matthew Wade. Umpire Marais Erasmus, unsure of it, refers it to the TV umpire just to get a confirmation that there was an edge.

India were reduced to 11 for 3; now depend on Rohit Sharma and Kedar Jadhav.
