Although Australia were off to a brilliant start in the opening Test at Pune, winning by 333 runs, India were strong and smart enough to bounce back with a win in the second Test, squaring the series and keeping the alive as well as wide open to decide who can lift the coveted trophy. However, the second Test did see some controversy that had the entire word talking, when Australian skipper Steven Smith was involved in a DRS controversy, where he was seen referring to the dressing-room to go for the review, which is strictly against the DRS laws. BCCI had lodged a formal complaint with the ICC, but both cricketing boards reached a consensus: BCCI withdrew the complaint, and both the captains shifted their focus back to cricket before the all-important Test at Ranchi.
