STUMPS: Australia have hung in there with Travis Head‘s fine 61 off 149 deliveries. Ishant Sharma was brilliant in the morning crashing Aaron Finch’s furniture. Ravichandran Ashwin was the pick of the Indian bowlers with three wickets — Marcus Harris, Usman Khawaja and Shaun Marsh — in his 33 overs going for just 50 runs at 1.51.

DAY 2 REPORT: R Ashwin keeps India ahead despite Travis Head fifty

“It’s nice to do the job for the team. That’s all I’m here to do. We hung in there in the end. India bowled exceptionally today. We’ve got a really important hour in the morning. Every run is going to be valuable,” Head tells FOX.

Day 3 promises to be really exciting. Australia will hope Head and Starc can take them to a good lead, while India will want to wrap the innings early in the day.

12:53pm: STUMPS on Day 2: Although it’s been India’s day, Australia have hung in there, courtesy Travis Head’s unbeaten 61.

12:40pm: FOUR! Mitchell Starc has struck his first boundary, slicing it towards backward point off Shami as Australia are looking to reduce the deficit to minimum with two overs to go.

12:23pm: WICKET! Bumrah strikes with the new ball as Pat Cummins is trapped leg before, departs for 10.

12:17pm: India have taken the new ball with Head and Cummins unbeaten on a fifty-run partnership. Bumrah to bowl.

12:12pm: Travis Head and Pat Cummins are currently involved in an unbeaten 47-run partnership as India are one over away from taking the new ball.

11:58am: FIFTY! Travis Head, facing MURALI VIJAY, brings up his half-century, his second in Tests and an important one at Adelaide.

11:52am: JUST MISSED! Ravichandran Ashwin could have got his fourth wicket after a classical offspinner just went over the off stump. Cummins survives.

11:48am: Big last hour coming up at Adelaide. Australia will look at Travis Head to take them closer to the total, while India will want to dislodge the tail before stumps.

11:44am: 150 up for Australia in the 70th over.

11:30am: Travis Head, on 35, is now the highest scorer in Australia’s first innings. He’s batting well with the tail and the hosts will hope they can get closer to the total.

11:21am: Australia lost their captain and wicketkeeper Tim Paine the same time India lost Rishabh Pant, 127/6. Talk about a game being evenly posed!

11:18am: WICKET! Ishant Sharma sets up Tim Paine nicely before the Australian captain edged it behind to Rishabh Pant and departed for 5.

11:04am: Australian captain Tim Paine has just struck his first boundary, uses the width of Shami to guide it through gully.

10:54am: Australia captain Tim Paine is the new batsman and is welcomed with a few words from his counterpart, Kohli.

10:36am: We’re back for the last session on Day 2 at Adelaide. Jasprit Bumrah has been handed the ball. Travis Head on strike.

Tea: The game is evenly poised. India would probably have wanted to break the Handscomb-Head partnership which currently stands at 30, but they will be happy with the two early wickets of Shaun Marsh and the big fish, Usman Khawaja, both to Ravichandran Ashwin, who has picked three wickets. Great last session coming up… India will want to take at least a couple more wickets to close the day, while Australia will try and reduce their deficit going into Day 3 tomorrow. Stay tuned…

10:15am: India have lost a review after appealing for a caught behind after Kohli and Co thought Travis Head edged it behind down leg off Shami.

10:04am: Peter Handscomb has just struck the shot of the afternoon and the day, nice pull in front of square off Shami, on the attack now are Australia.

09:48am: STAT: Shaun Marsh has faced 388 balls for 141 runs against Ashwin but has been dismissed five times.

09:42am: 100 up for Australia in 47.1 overs

09:26: Jasprit Bumrah continues after drinks and has bowled a maiden, his sixth in 11 overs.

09:20am: It’s drinks at Adelaide with the Australians under tremendous pressure. “The Indians have controlled the pace of the game. We could do with a good partnership to take us through to the end of the day,” Australia’s batting coach Graeme Hick has just spoken to Channel Nine.

“Very happy with the Harris played. Disappointed with the way he got out. Peter Handscomb is working on getting his head and weight back into the ball on the front foot a little more than last year.”

09:08am: WICKET! Ravichandran Ashwin gets the big wicket of Usman Khawaja, who has ticked it behind to Rishabh Pant behind. Khawaja’s patient knock 125-ball 28 comes to an end. Ashwin now has three wickets — Marcus Harris in the first session — followed by the wickets of Shaun Marsh and Khawaja.

08:54am: Two boundaries in this Shami over — the innings’ 37th — one of an edge and the other, a delightful square drive, both scored by Handscomb.

08:19am: WICKET! Ravichandran Ashwin has struck in the first over after lunch. Shaun Marsh, a nervous starter against spin, goes for the drive, but drags it onto the stumps, gone for 2.

08:14am: Nothing wrong with Mohammed Shami is the word from the team management.

08:10am: Welcome back, second session is about to get underway.

Lunch: After Josh Hazlewood‘s unbelievable first-ball dismissal of the day to get wrap up India’s innings at 250, the tourists’ bowlers have done well to keep the lid on the Australians. Ishant Sharma, the standout bowler of the session, claiming the wicket of opener Aaron Finch with a jaffa of a delivery. Jasprit Bumrah had his issues with his line which forced Kohli to introduce Ashwin into the attack. The move worked as the offie ended Marcus Harris‘ debut innings. Usman Khawaja is currently doing a Pujara with 21 off 86 and the Indians will want to see his back in the next session. An interesting post-lunch session coming right up…

FULL LUNCH REPORT: 1st Test, Adelaide: Australia 57/2 at lunch on day two after India fold for 250

07:38am: Lunch on Day 2 at Adelaide!

07:24am: Ashwin getting good drift as India eye another wicket before lunch.

07:16am: GONE! Ravichandran Ashwin gets the breakthrough, Marcus Harris went forward to defend that one, but took an edge to give Murali Vijay a simple catch at silly midoff. Harris departs for 26.

07:12am: Those wicket-taking deliveries are almost non-existent now. For the first 16 overs, only three balls were going on to hit the stumps.

07:03am: Not a pleasing sight for Indian fans. Mohammed Shami has left the field with a shoulder problem to get it checked by the physio. Fingers crossed it’s nothing too major! Earlier, BCCI had asked Shami to bowl only 15 overs in the Ranji Trophy 2018-19 season for Bengal, but he went on to bowl 26 in a day.

07:00am: It has taken Khawaja and Harris 20 ball to get a run off Mohammed Shami. Tight bowling this.

06:50am: Ashwin has not been getting much turn, just mixing his pace well. India need to pick up a wicket as the two left-handers are negotiating the bowling attack really well.

06:41am: Just after drinks Ravichandran Ashwin has been given the ball to try and find a breakthrough.

06:36am: BOWLING CHANGE! Mohammed Shami introduced into the attack with the Kookaburra 10 overs old. Can he get a breakthrough with Khawaja and Harris beginning to settle down here.

06:34am: Jasprit Bumrah is struggling to find his line, this one drifting on to the pads and Usman Khawaja guides it to the fine leg boundary.

06:22am: FOUR! Jasprit Bumrah bangs it short, and Marcus Harris was quick to put his hands on it to guide it between third slip and gully for the first boundary of the day.

06:14am: Ishant Sharma has been bowling a really good line, tantalisingly close to the off stump of both the left-handers — Usman Khawaja and Marcus Harris — but they’re doing well to leave the ball.

06:02am: Jasprit Bumrah has just clocked 148.7 kmph. SPEED!

05:54am: Marcus Harris is on his way in international cricket. He got his first runs — three of them — off Jasprit Bumrah after tucking a length off his pads and into the gap at midwicket.

05:45am: BOWLED HIM! Ishant Sharma has struck first blood making a mess of Aaron Finch’s furniture with a beautiful delivery coming into the right-hander. Finch’s poor form continues, gone for a duck.

05:34am: WHAT A START! Well, not many runs were expected from the tail enders — Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah — but not many expected a first ball dismissal. Josh Hazlewood crashed all hopes wrapping up India’s innings in the first ball on Day 2. Shami tried to go for a pull off a loose delivery going down leg side only to glove it to give Tim Paine an easy catch behind. India end their first innings at 250.
