Rishabh Pant levels Wriddhiman Saha’s Indian record with 10 catches in Adelaide Test

The rookie wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has in his sixth Test drawn matched the Indian record of most catches in a game, drawing level with Wriddhiman Saha‘s mark of 10 set earlier this year.

On day five of the first Test at Adelaide Oval, Pant equaled Saha when he held a catch off Australia captain Tim Paine.

Saha became the first Indian wicketkeeper – and second alongside Bob Taylor and Adam Gilchrist – to finish with ten catches in a Test during a match at Cape Town earlier this year. Only two wicketkeepers have held 11 catches in a Test before: England’s Jack Russell (at Johannesburg in 1995) and South Africa’s AB de Villiers (at Johannesburg in 2013).

Earlier in his Test, Pant completed six catches in Australia’s first innings to draw level with MS Dhoni‘s India record achieved in 2009.

In his debut series this summer in England, the 21-year-old played the last three Test and held 15 catches. Seven of those came in his first Test while becoming the first Indian wicketkeeper to take five catches in an innings on debut.
