George Bailey and Glenn Maxwell punished the Indian bowlers for being wayward as Australia smashed their way to 309 for four after 46 overs in the second ODI against India.

Australia captain Bailey is unbeaten on 54 off 34 balls, while the all-rounder Maxwell fell on the second last ball of the 45th over, after slamming 53 off 32 balls.

Maxwell struck seven boundaries and a six during his knock.

The two have put together an unbeaten -run stand for the fourth wicket as Australia have gained complete command over the Indians.

Earlier, Phil Hughes was dismissed for 83 by Ravichandran Ashwin in the second ODI at Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Australia scored 227 for the loss of three wickets in 38 overs. Attacking batsman Glenn Maxwell walked into bat after Hughes’s dismissal.

Hughes was beaten once by Ashwin and the next ball he tried to cut him through point. However the ball was accurate and there wasn’t much room for the shot. The well-set batsman only managed to give a faint edge to MS Dhoni behind the stumps.

Hughes had stitched 74-run opening partnership with Aaron Finch and 108 with Shane Watson.
