Shaun Marsh was dismissed for 32 on Day Two of the second Test between India and Australia at The Gabba, Brisbane. Marsh was dropped just a few balls earlier by Ajinkya Rahane, but edged an attempted cut off Umesh Yadav to Ravichandran Ashwin at slip. Earlier, Steven Smith scored the 10th half-century of his career. Coming into bat at No. 4, Smith survived a probing spell from Ravichandran Ashwin before lunch. He later hit a four and two sixes off an Ashwin over to boost his strike rate before getting to his landmark off the same bowler.

Shane Watson was dismissed thanks to a superb catch by Shikhar Dhawan off the bowling of Ravichandran Ashwin. David Warner was dismissed for 29. Warner top-edged an attempted short-arm jab off Umesh Yadav as the ball ballooned in the air to the slips where Ravichandran Ashwin accepted the catch.

Earlier, Josh Hazlewood starred with the ball for Australia as Brad Haddin took six catches. India were bowled out for of 408 after MS Dhoni and Ravichandran Ashwin added an attractive 57 runs, though the rest of the batsmen failed to capitalise on an excellent base laid by Murali Vijay, who scored his fifth Test match hundred — and fourth against Australia — and Ajinkya Rahane who guided India to 311 for four at stumps on Day One. India became only the second visiting team in history to score over 300 runs at The Gabba on Day One of a Test.
