Steven Smith was dismissed by Ishant Sharma soon after Mitchell Johnson was out for 88 on Day Three of the second Test between India and Australia at The Gabba, Brisbane. Johnson took just 93 balls to get his score as he and Steven Smith added 148 runs for the seventh wicket. Smith made an Australian record when he became the youngest Aussie to score a hundred on captaincy debut. Smith joined the likes of Warwick Armstrong, Graham Yallop, and Greg Chappell as Australians who scored tons on captaincy debuts. Smith scored his sixth century and Mitchell Johnson smashed a 37-ball fifty as the pair added over 100 runs.

Johnson scored a quickfire half-century off just 37 balls. Brad Haddin was dismissed by Varun Aaron. Aaron got Haddin to fend off a short ball to Cheteshwar Pujara at short leg. Ishant Sharma dismissed Mitchell Marsh early. Marsh could only add four runs to his overnight score of seven as India drew first blood in the morning session.

Earlier, Australia ended at 221 for four on Day Two. Steven Smith remained unbeaten on 65 while Mitchell Marsh was not out on seven. Umesh Yadav was the pick of the Indian bowlers with three for 48 as Australia trailed by 187 runs after India were bowled out for 408 in the morning session.
