Lloyd Pope became on overnight sensation after recording best bowling figures in the ICC U-19 World Cup 2018. It was in the quarter finals against England when he picked up 8 for 35 securing a place for Australia in the semis.

Pope’s social media account was flooded with followers after his performance. His fan base increased drastically as he was loved by people all over the globe, including India. According to reports in cricket.com.au Pope found his growing fame odd.

“I’ve had a lot of interest from other countries, including India especially.”

“It’s really weird to see because I’ve always just played cricket and had my family say well done and no one else really. It feels a little odd,” Pope said.

In the first match when India defeated Australia by 100 runs Pope had bowled three overs and went wicket-less. However Pope is unsure if he will experience a huge fan support in the finals against India at Mount Maunganui, New Zealand. He concluded saying that the main aim of the team would however be on winning the cup.

“I know they play spin very well but I’m backing myself to take some wickets and not go for too many runs,” Pope said.

“I don’t really mind too much about the quarter-final any more.”

“It’s all about the trophy now. That’s what we came here to win,” he concluded.
