India and Bangladesh will kick off Asia Cup T20 2016 with the first match at Dhaka on Thursday. This has been a busy cricket season, and it will only get more intense over the next couple of months. Asia Cup has traditionally been a One-Day International (ODI) tournament, but this year because of the close proximity to the upcoming ICC World T20, the organisers decided to make Asia Cup a Twenty20 International (T20I) tournament. Coming to the opening match, Bangladesh have the psychological edge over India, having beaten them 2-1 in the ODI series last year. However, India are on a roll at the moment after beating Australia and Sri Lanka in successive T20I series. Live Cricket Scorecard: India vs Bangladesh, Asia Cup T20 2016, 1st T20I at Dhaka

MS Dhoni is a doubtful starter for India, which means Virat Kohli could be captain in the first match. Kohli has been in incredible form this year, and is currently one of the the top-ranked T20I batsmen in the world. Kohli has also traditionally done well in Bangladesh, and will be Bangladesh’s biggest threat. Given the form Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan are in, India’s top order looks the best in the tournament by far. Bangladesh will be hoping their bowling attack can stop India. FULL CRICKET UPDATES: India (IND) vs Bangladesh (BAN), Asia Cup 2016 T20 Match 1, Dhaka

Mustafizur Rahman was a revelation in the ODI series last year, where he single-handedly dismantled India twice. Bangladesh’s spin attack is also potent, and it will require excellent batting from the Indians to score or chase a big total. As things stand, the tournament opener is likely to be action-packed and tough to predict. India start as slight favourites, but Bangladesh are a tough team to beat at home.
