India vs Bangladesh: Cheteshwar Pujara slams most runs in a single Indian First-Class season

Top-order batsman Cheteshwar Pujara on Thursday became the most run-scorer in a single domestic Indian First-Class season, during Day One of the one-off Test against Bangladesh at the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium in Hyderabad. Pujara has scored 1,605 plus First-Class runs in the ongoing season. He needed only 83 runs prior to this contest to break the all-time record for most runs in an Indian season, which was held by Chandu Borde (1,604 runs in 1964-65). Currently, India are 180 for the loss of two wickets, with opener Murali Vijay on 89, and Cheteshwar Pujara on 83 after electing to bat against Bangladesh. Pujara was dismissed just after creating the record of most runs by in First-Class cricket in an Indian season of Mehedi Hasan’s bowling. Pujara was the top run-scorer during the Test series against New Zealand, where he scored 373 runs in the three matches he played, with his highest score being an unbeaten 101, along with an average of 74.60. While against England, Pujara finished as the second highest run scorer, after skipper Virat Kohli, as he scored 401 runs in the five matches he played, with 124 breing his top score, along with an average of 50.12. In the ongoing domestic season so far, Pujara had played just one Ranji Trophy tie, where he scored an unbeaten 93, while in the Irani Cup, he led the Rest of India team, where he scored 202 runs and was the second top run scorer after wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha, as he continue his steady form ahead.
