Hyderabad: Batting great Sachin Tendulkar on Saturday heaped lavish praise on Virat Kohli after the Indian captain slammed a record-breaking double century in the one-off Test against Bangladesh. This was Kohli’s fourth double ton in four successive Test series, surpassing the legendary Donald Bradman and Rahul Dravid, who had three centuries in three rubbers. Kohli’s marathon innings, which came off 246 deliveries, included 24 fours. He scored 200 against the West Indies in Antigua, 211 against New Zealand in Indore, and 235 against England in Mumbai, all in 2016. In praise of the in-form skipper, Tendulkar wrote on his twitter handle, “The sweet spot on your bat speaks about the awesome form you are in, don’t need scoreboards. Kohli also broke Virender Sehwag’s long-standing record of most Test runs scored by a batsman in a single home season. He joined an elite list which comprises Bradman, Michael Clarke, Graeme Smith — all these captains have scored four double hundreds in Test cricket. The list is headed by Brian Lara. Earlier, Crediting his rampaging run to captaincy, Indian swashbuckler Virat Kohli says the added responsibility has left no room for complacency in his batting and that has helped him achieve the record-breaking feat of four double hundreds in as many Test series.

Kohli, who smashed 204 on the second day of the ongoing one-off Test against Bangladesh in Hyderabad, said captaincy has helped him go for longer innings in Test matches. “I don’t know, I think it is because of captaincy that you tend to go on more than what you usually would as a normal batsman. I think the room for complacency is no more present when you become captain. So, that has something to do with me playing long innings,” the 28-year-old right-handed batsman said.
