England‘s Test skipper, Alastair Cook, brought up his 53rd half-century on Day Five of the first Test against India at Rajkot. After taking a sniff lead of 49 runs in the first innings, England came out to bat in the last session of previous day’s play and went to stumps without losing a wicket. England’s newcomer and Cook’s opening partner, Haseeb Hameed, got to a maiden Test fifty by adjusting well against spinners while Cook joined the party by slamming an important fifty on final day. Cook will be eyeing an early declaration to enforce a result in the game if England manage quick runs on board. Live Cricket Scorecard: India vs England 1st Test at Rajkot

England’s first innings was led by Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali’s century while captain Cook missed out scoring just 21. He was dropped early on Day One as Ajinkya Rahane missed a regulation catch at slips but still the established batsman could not convert it into anything significant. Nonetheless, Cook has made it up with a fine fifty in a crunch moment of the match for his side and this will settle his nerves heading into the long series.
