This is a litmus test for India as England have got the better of them in the previous three Test series and also won the home series hosted by India in 2012. Being the No. 1 side, India will like to give it back to England this time around with a thorough performance in their own den.

The key players from England’s side will be Cook, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali and Jonny Bairstow while from India’s side, all eyes will be on Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Cheteshwar Pujara and Gautam Gambhir. A 1-0 lead for both the sides will be essential and they will be itching to have a go at each other. Meanwhile, the debutante from England’s side is right-handed opening batsman, Haseeb Hameed. Hameed will be 675th player to have represented his nation in Tests.
