England‘s vice-captain, Joe Root, has slammed his 24th Test fifty as play resumed after lunch in first Test between India and England at Rajkot. In the first session, there was plenty of action as visitors won the toss and elected to bat. England were given lots of reprieve as Indian slip fielders dropped three catches. However, by end of first session, England finished at 102 for 3 with Root well set by then. He drove, cut a few deliveries and kept on ticking the scoreboard from his end looking at ease against the spinners. England lost Alastair Cook, Haseeb Hameed and Ben Duckett before heading for lunch break after a good start by the openers. Root will have to steady his side’s innings and play around along with Moeen Ali, Ben Stokes, Jonny Bairstow and Chris Woakes. If Root scores a big one, India will feel the heat as they will be batting fourth on this track. Live Cricket Scorecard: India vs England 1st Test at Rajkot.

The pitch is conducive for batting and any total in excess of 300 will be fruitful for England against India as they have six bowlers with three seamers and spinners. Till now, for India, Ravichandran Ashwin has taken two scalps whereas Ravindra Jadeja got the first breakthrough in form of Cook.

The current partnership between Root and Ali stands at 36 runs and are looking well set with the pacers operating for India.
