In the first session of play at Rajkot between India and England, there was plenty of action as England won the toss and elected to bat. England came out to bat and were given lots of reprieve as Indian slip fielders dropped three catches. However, by end of first session, England finished at 102 for 3 with Joe Root and Moeen Ali at the crease. India removed Alastair Cook, Haseeb Hameed and Ben Duckett before heading for lunch break. Cook was dropped twice while Hameed got one reprieve but eventually fell for 31. Hameed looked good in his brief stay at the crease but was outdone by Ravichandran Ashwin. Play has resumed at Rajkot as Indians will like to get on top of England with an inexperienced middle and lower-order against them. Live Cricket Scorecard: India vs England 1st Test at Rajkot.

The pitch is conducive for batting and any total in excess of 300 will be fruitful for England against India as they have six bowlers with three seamers and spinners. India will have their task cut out as they are batting fourth in this pitch and cracks have already started to crop up on the turf.

Root will have to steady his side’s innings and play around along with Moeen, Ben Stokes, Jonny Bairstow and Chris Woakes. Till now, for India, Ashwin has taken two scalps whereas Ravindra Jadeja got the first breakthrough in form of Cook.
